MyLand.scot is a space to learn about the ways Scotland’s land is used and how it impacts on people’s lives. In the podcast, Anne and Graham talk to Calum Maclean about their plans for COP26 and why it’s so important to them to activate a piece of vacant and derelict land.

On behalf of the IPF Scottish committee, Anne chaired a webinar on 24th March featuring Chris Stark, Chief Executive of the Climate Change Committee, entitled ‘The importance of buildings in achieving net zero’. In what was a fascinating and informative session, Chris talked IPF members through the findings of the CCC’s 6th Carbon Budget and talked about the challenges, and opportunities, facing the built environment. Anne joined Simon Tilling, Craig Whelton and Joanna Monaghan from Burges Salmon to kick off Scottish Financial Enterprise’s Climate Series in the run up to COP26. Alongside SFE Chair Sandy Begbie, Simon, Craig and Anne explored the meaning of net zero and the legislative frameworks for achieving it in a global, national and local context. Anne was delighted to contribute to a working group chaired by John Forbes to prepare a response on behalf of Assocation of Real Estate Funds (AREF) to the European Supervisory Authorities (ESAs) consultation on the proposed Regulatory Technical Standards (RTS) for ESG disclosure. Her insights were also fed into other industry responses, including the Investment Property Forum (IPF). We argued that real estate as an asset class should be excluded until a workable framework for reporting direct property can be developed. On 11th November Anne gave a presentation on “Setting a Pathway to Net Zero” as part of the Brodies Enlightened Thinking seminar series. Her talk covered what net zero means, the elements of a net zero strategy, the metrics and measures that should be considered and gave examples of organisations who are already making an impact in reducing their carbon emissions. Anne featured on the panel “Best practices, best buildings” at the REFI Global ESG Summit. She argues that environmental and social performance has been plagued for many years by a lack of good data to benchmark performance, particularly on social impact, and that transparency is key. Anne joined IES expert, Dr Sarah Graham, to look at how digital twins can analyse not only various decarbonisation options, but also other health and socio-economic factors that the built environment impacts.
